My god, this stuff is fascinating. I've never had such a clear account of my family history before.

Here's a clipping about the death of my grandfather. This'd be my biological grandfather -- my mother's father -- who I never knew. It's not dated, but it'd be at the time of his death in November, 1954. My mother's name -- Sharron -- is misspelled in the article. My grandmother's Coffee Shoppe had failed by 1957.

Compared to obituaries published more recently, the older ones gave a wealth of information. My great-grandfather's not only documented his migration from Alabama to Texas and then to New Mexico, but provided information about a child who had died in infancy that most of the family did not know about, and that he had been "the first to plant cotton for the gin" in the county.
