Inking
I was toying around with some inking tonight. I thought I'd take a stab at some portraits -- I grabbed some images of a particular set of people, and thought I'd try my hand at rendering them. It was an interesting experiment -- not entirely successful. But there are things I like about them: the second figure's coat, for example.
Like I say, these are meant to be real people, but I don't think I've quite captured them. Playing with light and shadow was fun, though.

It's not light and shadow that are difficult, necessarily, it's showing them unobtrusively. It's much more difficult in b&w drawings, like you've done here. (There's a reason I prefer to work in pencil! Soft graphite streaks make life so much easier.)
