Donate with care

On February 28th, the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development had a two hour discussion about relief efforts in Haiti. The Red Cross was the only agency chosen to speak. Just reading it reminds me about how lacklustre their Haitian relief plans are. Build 7500 shelters by this fall. Treat 1200 people in their new field hospital. 12% administrative costs. We're talking about the largest recipient of aid.

Expect to see a lot ads by the Red Cross for Japanese aid: in my opinion, they're one of the last organizations you should donate to.

Yes, I'm also rather disturbed by the way that the Red Cross is a lot of people's default, go-to charity when disaster strikes.
